I agree that it is a case of the mother being told that he died fighting against the British (English) / Western Allies and she has taken it to mean fighting over England. All the losses shown in the links in the previous post don't actually say where the aircraft were shot down (except for the last one) and in The Battle Of France Then & Now there are losses from all those units over the Western Front.
I have wehrpasses to Luftwaffe personnel that have campaign entries stating that they were involved in the fight against England and yet never left the airfield as they were in signals or mechanics etc.
