Uffz. Horst Gewitz, MIA 09 Aug 1944

Hi all,
Sorry to annoy you again, but I have a second potential ID for the crash site.

"09/08/44 Uffz. Horst Gewitz 9./JG 26 Bf 109 G-6 (440668)
White 16 Unknown reason (combat with P-47 ?)
Chartres - Orléans"

Date is ok with the witness I spoke to ( summer because she was not at school)
Location is quite unprecise, but crash site is between Chartres and Rambouillet.
Plane version is very matching.
I have good hopes on this one, please let me know if there's any info confirming that possibility!

Interesting too, it appears that the Gruppenkommandeur of the III./JG 26 ( including 9.JG26 I think) Klaus Mietusch claimed several victories near Chartres, and had to jump from his Bf 109 G-6/U4 (W.Nr. 440 640) “White 20” hit by a spitfire , but did not return to his base until the next day. I spoke to another witness, that told me to have seen an injured pilot yelling just after the crash. So I'd say "why not" about this one too…although I can't find any location for this crash, and U4 would mean mk108, of which I have found no evidence ( plenty of 20 and 13mm instead)

Thanks by advance,
Fabrizio
