Re: Saburo Sakai

Frank –

My “Great List of Naval Aviators,” which as of this week numbers some 51,720 individuals and adding more every week, and does not include NAPs – an on-going project, nor USMC aviators – a project for my retirement, shows these below as losses on 24 Jun 1944:

LCDR Rolla Stuart Lemmon (079020), USN; VF-50 USS Bataan
LTJG James Albert DeBell (250523), USNR AV(N); VF-50 USS Bataan
ENS Robert S Fraser (291221), USNR AV(N); VF-50 USS Bataan
LTJG Conrad Elliott (251061), USNR AV(N); VF-2 USS Hornet
ENS Earl Carroll Reinert (278757), USNR AV(N); VF-1 USS Yorktown

I seem to be missing someone . . .

I do show ENS Ivan Chester Schug (326353), USNR AV(N); VF-1 USS Yorktown, lost on 25 June 1944, who was killed when his plane lost power on landing approach and crashed into the sea, taking Schug down with it.

Regards,

Rich
