Hi Stephane,

The 474th FG flew a few missions near and over France on 14 Jul 44. The 428th FS flew two missions (Numbers 44 and 45) flying cover for channel shipping between the Isle of Wight and LeHavre. The 429th FS also flew two missions that day. The first mission was an afternoon bomber escort to Bevil, France. The second mission was in the early evening to bomb a bridge in the vicinity of Nogen-le-Roi. 12 P-38s went out on this mission. 2Lt Clarence C. Moore was KIA in P-38J-10-LO, serial number 42-67662, when his a/c got caught in the bomb blast of the ship in front of his. He was last seen doing a complete roll and exploding upon hitting a stone building. There are no reports of the 430th FS flying any missions on this day. Hope this helps.

Cheers, Gary Koch
