L.G. 9/7/1940. Wireless Operator/Air Gunner. Air2/6080.

This Wireless Operator/Air Gunner has been continuously employed as such in an operational crew since the outbreak of hostilities and has displayed outstanding coolness and efficiency in operations against the enemy. His devotion to duty and technical skill has been instrumental in enabling his Captain to operate successfully under most adverse weather conditions both by day and night and on more than one occasion, his exceptional ability was largely responsible for the safe return of the aircraft to its base.

This N.C.O. is considered by his C.O. to hold the best record in the squadron for consistent good work as a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner since the outbreak of war. I concure and strongly recommend him for the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal.

Over long and arduous crossings of the North Sea to attack targets in Norway, this operator maintained not only excellent communication with base, enabling his aircraft to be diverted when weather conditions deteriorated, but also a most detailed log which contained valuable information with regard to other aircraft and the operation as a whole.
