Le Groupe de Chasse II/3. Charognards et Lévriers dans la tourmente, sept.1939-juin 1940.

Hi,

The last book of Bernard Philippe is available :

Established in 1933, the Hunting Group or GC II / 3 was equipped with the Morane-Saulnier fighter MS.406 when the war began on September 3, 1939. It also kept this aircraft during the entire period known as the Drôle de Guerre , during which his drivers were credited with four victories. He was ordered to go to the south of the country on 9 May, the day before the German offensive in the west, in order to transform himself into the best fighter available to the Air Force: the Dewoitine D .520. As soon as it was equipped, the GC II / 3 went up in the north, its pilots having hardly had time to train on their new mount. The first air battles took place on May 21, 1940, when the military situation was already dramatic, announcing the encirclement of the Franco-British troops in Dunkirk. In less than a month, the GC II / 3 pilots, with the support of the ground staff who worked tirelessly on the planes, were responsible for the destruction of 51 enemy aircraft, 34 of which were safe victories.

Bernard Philippe tells us about the life of this great Air Force fighter unit during a particularly dark period in our history. Collecting official and private documents collected from the families of the former staff of the group, he offers us a detailed account of the GC II / 3 campaign of 1939-1940.
