Two I-16 from the 44 IAP were assigned to patrol in the area of Mga but became involved in an air battle. From this battle was listed Ml. Lt. Nikolay Efremov as KIA. (Source documents from the Soviet 7 IAK). Other claims from I-16s were made later in the day.
