Info on Lt McDonald Donald J 325thFG
On June 6th '44 on a mission from Piryatin, Ukraine to Galati /Romania the P-51 42-103432 of Lt Mac Donald and this of 2nd Lt Mumford John D P-51 42-103 369 were shot down near Thigina Bendery or Tiraspol by unknown opponents possibly based at Leipzig Airfield and taken captive to one of the Stalag Lufts in Germany .While MacDonald was returned from captivity and died in 2006 , there are speculations that Mumford may have died on the way to or at the POW camp from injuries sustained in combat.
Questions : 1. was this Stalag Luft III ? 2. what LW units were involved ? are there any pilot photos available ?
