By co-incidence, a Flying Fortress of the 384th BG crashed just north of Reigate, Surrey into Reigate Hill, after overshooting from trying to make a forced landing at Gatwick and heading north. I wonder if they, (both the B17 and the C47's) followed a Standard Procedure, and set their altimeters on Altitude above Sea level, as opposed to Height, above Ground Level??
