The 1930s-1940s era gliders had five to six instruments:
- turn-and-bank indicator
- rate-of-climb indicator
- airspeed indicator
- altimeter
- compass
That was basic set. The Americans added directional gyro as well. That's all. Timer was not needed in the gliders.
