The EDPR is more often cited than read, I suspect. It applies in the UK and sites such as ancestry.com and findmypast.co.uk have categorically not been turned off, anymore than have the dedicated resources of the National Archives (
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/...family-history). Marriages are formally recorded by the state and by religious institutions, they are announced publicly via newspapers etc. and usually mentioned when deaths are announced and in obituaries. There are also trade directories, old telephone books and newpspapers. If you wish to establish the marital status of a person born in (say) the 1920s then numerous sources remain open to you beyond this forum.
