Re: Von Stade 10./JG300 and his Bf 109 September 1944

Hello Kari,

As to the fate of von Stade, like others from 10./JG 300 including Jorg Czypionka, he was recruited by Oblt. Kurt Welter in 1945 to fly Me 262 nightfighters in 10./NJG 11.

From page 94 of O'Connell, Me 262 Production Log, (2005):
"110600 Call sign NU+YY. Me 262 A-1a. ...
... One source notes that Ofw. Heinz von Stade of 10./NJG 11, was killed or badly injured on 21 February 1945, after crash landing at Prenzlau from combat damage, and the jet was almost completely destroyed. However he was again in combat on 23 February and was KIA in another aircraft ..."

However, on p. 112 of Andreas Zapf's Mosquitos & Schwalben, (2014), Ofw. Heinrich von Stade of 10./NJG 11 is reported "KIA" on 2 April 1945 when his Me 262 crashed after he rammed a Mosquito, possibly KB185 of No. 139 RAF Squadron.

Best regards,

Jim Geens
