Re: Bent Wing B-29

Due to an excess of time on my hand, I set out to try to identify the B-29 shown derelict on Biancur (Eglin Auxiliary #6). There is date on the bottom of the picture- 4/16/1955, Therefore, I reasoned, I would look for B-29s Surveyed/Reclaimed/Class 26 at Eglin AFB. before April 1955. Using the AAIR (Aviation Archeological Investigatory & Research) Database on USAF accidents, Joe Baugher's website, and Robert Mann's B-29 book. Unfortunately, assuming the 1946 date is approximately correct, i came up with three candidates:

S/N DATE UNIT FATE
44-61798 9/16/1946 59th Weather Recon Sq. Salvaged at Eglin
44-61793 10/16/1946 59th Weather Recon Sq. Salvaged at Eglin
42-24478 01/27/1947 611 B.U. Salvaged at Eglin

Besides these three, there is also 44-27263. 22 BG, Class 26 at Eglin 05/201954 and B-29, 44-62294 which suffered a landing accident at Eglin on March 29,1952. This particular serial number is listed as "Unknown" in Robert Mann's Master B-29 listing. It's hard to find out any information on post war B-29S.
