ORB Form 540 - Summary of Events - August 11
Airfield: Middle Wallop - Two Blenheims of No.604 Squadron detailed to investigate enemy seaplane, found it to be a Heinkel 59 in sea 30 miles from French coast with engines running. No.604 Squadron set it on fire. There were two German rescue ships of 30 and 150 tons and a small rubber boat. Three Spitfires of No.152 Squadron acting as an escort at 4,000 feet were attacked by six Messerschmitts 109.
Enemy casualties – 1 Heinkel 59, 2 Messerschmitts 109 seriously damaged.
Our casualties Nil.
Four Night Fighter patrols; 6 hours 25 minutes.
