Re: Bf109 fighter bombers 27 September 1944

27 September 1944: Luftwaffe support of II. Fallschirmkorps and II. SS-Panzerkorps to eliminate the Allied bridgeheads at Nimwegen and Eindhoven and destroy the forces that had landed between the Waal and the Lower Rhine. In foul weather with frequent rain showers and low-lying cloud cover, 3. Jagddivision flew 231 Einsätze (sorties) over the Arnhem-Nimwegen sector with the main focus being on the Driel-Elst area. At the end of the day, 3. Jagddivision reported 7 victories, 30 aircraft lost, 24 KIA and MIA, and 4 badly wounded. The 3. Jagddivision Bf 109 units flying low-level support for the ground forces in the Driel area were almost certainly III./JG 4, II./JG 27 and I./JG 76.
