Kosti Keski-Nummi 1923-2018

Dear forum members,

unfortunately I have to inform that ylikersantti Kosti Keski-Nummi has passed away yesterday, 18 August 2018 at his home town Hämeenlinna, Finland.

He flew Brewster and Messerchmitt Bf 109 in the famous 3. lentue in Hävittäjälentolaivue 24 in 1943–1944. He got altogether 5½ victories and flew many times as wingman to his commanding officer and leader of 3. lentue, Hans Wind (75 victories, second highest scoring Finnish ace).

Keski-Nummi continued to serve in the Finnish Air Force after the war, but he retired from the active service in 1947. After that he studied to became a schoolteacher, and he worked in that profession until he finally retired in the 1970s. He was one of the last Finnish aces who was still alive.

I have sent my condolences to his daughter.

Best regards
Raimo Malkamäki
