It is possible that the Finns were using fuel of a lower octane rating: this does seem to have been the case with their (and the Russian) evaluations of the Hurricane. The Russians are known to have set up a dedicated supply line supplying 100 octane to their P-39 units, but not to other (earlier) types. The Finns would not have had access to such supplies. It is perhaps arguable whether these Hawk 75 trials had such access either.
