Luftwaffe claim locations determined by Y- and Egon-Messung?
Good evening,
The only actual Luftwaffe claim documents I have seen were those of Fw. Karl-Heinz Becker presented by Andreas Zapf in his on-line essay on the 10./NJG 11 of 2014.
Apparently, accompanying the filled-in claim form entitled "Abschussmeldung, Zerstorungsmeldung" each pilot wrote a brief performa Gefechtsbericht (Battle report).
From Becker's Battle Report for the daylight claim on 15.2.45, (Zapf, p. 72):
"… Nach Y-Messung erfolgte der Abschuss im Planquadrat KG6 um 15.46 U".
From Becker's Battle Reports for the following night claims:
21.3.45 (Zapf, p.96):
"… Der Angfriff erfolgte nach Egon-Messung im Planquadrat GG5/6."
23.3.45 (Zapf, p.99):
"… Der Abschuss erfolgte in 8000 m im Scheinwerfer. Der Standort nach Egon-Messung war GG2 um 23.50 Uhr von der 1.J.D."
23.3.45 (Zapf, p. 100) second claim:
"Der Standort nach Egon-Messung war FG8 um 23.53 Uhr von der 1. Jagddivision"
My questions are:
1. How were the locations determined?
2. When was this technology first used for claims?
3. After introduction, was this technology used on all Luftwaffe aircraft?
Thanks in advance,
Jim
