Nov3 ,1942 Luftwaffe loss.
1942 Nov3 6.30am on coastal road between El Alamein and Mersa Matruh 260 Sq Kittyhawk2 collided with ME109F , cutting fuselage in half: Kittyhawk lost left wing. ME109 pilot killed :Kittyhawk pilot badly hurt gash in thigh from antenna on bailing out.
Could anyone confirm the name of ME 109 pilot?
For some reason the German officers who interrogated the canadian pilot after he was operated on at field hospital were very agitated about circumstances of death of Me109 pilot.He thought they were very polite,but wanting to know all details of incident, apparently ME109 pilot was well known though he didnt recognise name.
Incident was witnessed by other A/c of 260sq ,SqL Devonish in command.
