South African Audaxes

Hi,

Just been going through 'Hawker aircraft since 1920' and 'The K File' collecting info on the Audaxes that were sent to South Africa.

From the South African serials listed it looks like 83 Audaxes were supplied, serials 1800-1882. Most have a corresponding RAF serial apart from the following; 1800, 1806, 1810, 1812, 1815, 1824, 1862, 1865, 1866, 1872, 1873, 1879 and 1880. The following RAF serials do not have a matching South African serial, K3690, K4392, K5252, K7430 and K8316.

It would appear that most of these aircraft served with 2 FTS, with a few going to 16 SFTS. I would assume these were South African units based somewhere in Kenya?

Also three Audax served with 1 OTU SAAF Nairobi, K7540, K7545 and K7549. Two of them, K7540 and K7549 later served with 4 SAAF Squadron. Both being lost on 11th July 1941.

Ok the point of this post is;

1, Would anyone know the missing RAF serials for the above mentioned 13 SAAF serials?
2, Likewise what are the missing SAAF serials for the 5 RAF serials?
3, Where were 2 FTS and 16 SFTS based?
4, Did the three Audaxes at 1 OTU SAAF Nairobi have SAAF serials or were they still RAF Audaxes on loan?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Alex
