Hi Stig. The Nieuport XVII N1831 in the photo was from N.77 (SPA.77 from August 1917),their insignia was a cross of Jerusalem on a pennant but some XVIIs had elaborate personal emblems, the comet was Ltt. Jose Maria ( POW). It was repeated on top of the fuselage.

N.86 had a winged star rather than a comet, mostly on SPADS.
I hope I havn't got my facts wrong !!!

The other looks like a Nie.10 or early 12, later had different cowlings.
