On the Flypast forum their is an interesting posting re: a picture on the German Ebay of a Hurricane in France in 1940
The picture can be found here:
http://cgi.ebay.de/Englisches-Jagd-F...QQcmdZViewItem
It shows a Hurricane coded NV-K - And the serial (by elimination is P2577) . According to Air Britian Serials this was with 615 Sqn and according to Franks FCL and Twelve Days in May this was lost on May 16th P/O Brian B Toung wounded of 615 Sqn wounded
See:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=1420
Note: The other possibity "P3577" was lost in the Thames estuary on Sept. 15 1940
The problem I have is NV was 79 Sqn Code and not 615 Sqn. Now it is possible that 615 Sqn (who were converting from Gladiators to Hurricanes in France early May 1940) obtained their machines from 79 Sqn. But 79 Sqn were also sent to France in May 1940.
So the issue is:
a) Is the aircraft shown P2577 ?
b) Why is it coded NV-K if it is P2577
c) If it is a 615 Sqn Machine was it borrowed from 79 Sqn
d) Does this show the aircraft Toung was wounded in on May 16th 1940 P2577. The aircraft does show evidence of damage.
Thanks
Paul
