Re: Blenheims losses on 19/08/40
Can add:
James Henry Round, of Netherton, Dudley, Warwickshire joined the RAFVR about September 1937 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and was serving with 248 Squadron in early July 1940.
On 3 August his Blenheim came down in a field near Tranent, East Lothian but the crew were unhurt. Then on 19 August 1940 the 27 year old was piloting Blenheim L9457 S - Sugar on a sortie when intercepted by Me109's of 4/JG77 off the Norwegian coast. It was shot down: Round, Sgt. William Want and gunner Sgt. Maxwell Digby-Worsley perished.
Have two photographs of James.
