Seems to be an interesting book. I found some information about the book on Amazon. He had a hard life before he joined the RAF. I will put the book on my "to buy list".
Wallace McIntosh is probably the highest scoring air-gunner in Bomber Command but a few Defiant-gunners had higher scores according to this list of Notable RAF air gunners:

Of course itīs difficult to compare air-gunners from bombers and Defiants because the type of operations was completely diffirent.
