As someone who does his fair share of digging at the coalface, both these points are a given. The difficulty comes in that in many ways your research is never finished as it is a constant quest to unearth new information, however, people do need to apply a cut off point for their writing. That's just the way it is.
For instance I continue to try and discover new material on helicopter development in Germany between 1930 and 1945. Since publishing my book, I have become aware of further archival sources which can possibly help me add to my knowledge and I am currently in the middle of a process to try and tick these off my list. This process will take me approximately 5 years because I want to get it right and feel that I have left no stone unturned.
