Re: What unit escorted the Ju 88 R "defection"?

I have my meals almost every day with Mr Scaman, one of the pilots that flew the escort. He has shown me his logbook. We have had many a good discussion about his exploits. I have been into model airplanes since I was 5 years old. We were discussing London and he told me he was there during the war. My jaw dropped when I found out he was a Spitfire pilot. His jaw dropped when I was able to tell him I knew the squadron code on his plane, the difference in rotation direction between the Merlin and the Griffon etc. He is 99 years old, walks as fast as a 30 year old and his mind is clear with very good memory. It is an honor to spend time with him. I copied and enlarged this discussion ( his eyesight is not great now) for him and he found it very interesting. He was given the lifevest of one of the crew, Schmid I think, but it was lost when he lent it out for a war bonds event. He has visited the Ju 88 years ago.
