Identification of Fw 190

The main differences between the Fw 190 A-4 and the Fw 190 A-6 were that the latter replaced the outboard MG FF 20-mm cannons with MG 151 20-mm cannons and the FuG 16Z radio set with the improved FuG 16ZE radio set. The surest way to distinguish between the two is by the werknummer (serial number) usually painted on the tail fin. If this is not available, the two most prominent visual points are the shorter nose of the former as mentioned by innocenti and the longer barrels of the outboard MG 151 20-mm cannons of the latter. Also, the access panel on the port rear fuselage changed shape from a square on the Fw 190 A-4 to a rectangle on the Fw 190 A-6. I hope this helps.
