Alan Reeson Talbot seems a very likely fit. Ray Coll refers to him as "the Britisher" in one of his columns, and based on the information Col Bruggy provided, Alan Talbot was born in London. He enlisted in 1942, which would have given him ample time to be posted in Java and Burma, which Coll attributes to the "Talbott" of his columns.

It's a shame his service records are not digitized. There doesn't appear to be much in the newspapers available through Newspapers.com, just a mention of his passing and details concerning his estate with no biographical information.

Still, this is markedly more than I had to go on when I started. Cheers!
