Re: Avro Autogyro in France 1940
Brian,
When I used books.google for a search the book "Westland and the British Helicopter Industry 1945-1960" came up.
On the online pages it says on p. 22: "In September 1939, the deployment of British troops to France brought renewed Air Minsitry interest in the operational utility of rotorcraft. To optimise the use of available assets in support of the war effort, two Cierva C.40 autogiros were despatched to France with the BEF to support Army observation work".
The Cierva C.40 would be a Avro Rota II
No squadron/flight is mentioned. Elsewhere I read that No. 81 Squadron (also?) flew Autogiros next to their Tiger Moths in France?
Regards,
Leendert
