Re: About Luftwaffe Ar96 recovered and used by French Army Air Force
Bonjour,
In my file, i have no record of flyable Arado 96 found in France (1944/45) or in the french occupation zone (south west Germany) in 1945.
80 (or 88 the number differs with the source) Ar 96 where given by the British to the French in 1946.
These planes have been collected by the British in northern Germany and left in the open on the airfield of Leck.
In summer 1946 french fighters pilots where send to Leck to come back to France with these Arado. All the ferry pilots I meet told me that they have to make a stop on the airfield of Strasbourg-Entsheim where was the "official gate" for all the former german planes entering in France.
The plane where in bad shape and given to the french without any record of former use or log book to know their former flying time.
The best planes where used by the french air force and 20 worst Ar 96 where grounded after their arrival in Cognac to be used as source for spare parts.
I do not found a record of the Werck Nummern of these planes in the french archives.
Joyeux Noël.
