Re: Operation Anklet

He 115B W.Nr. 1888 K6+LH of 1./406 was shadowing a british convoy when hit by anti aircraft fire from the ships. The pilot tried to make a forced landing in open sea some 30-40 km south-west of Bodø. Unfortunately, the plane crashed during the landing. The observer, Lt.z.See Klaus-Walter Neumerkel was missing, while the pilot, Fw. Werner Vorkauf and the wireless operator, Uffz. Hugo Dudeck, both were found dead. I am certain that the aircraft was shadowing ships in connection with "Anklet".
