Re: He-219 ”Uhu”s found at the end of the war
Aircraft no.3 at Cheb/Eger = 3-digit-coded ‘188’. Can't be W.Nr. 310188, which was found at Fliegerhorst Westerland in 1945, while W.Nr. 190188 was lost in combat on the night of 3/4 June 1944 (Ferguson). Another option is W.Nr. 290188, which although appearing in Ferguson’s list of Werknummern and Stammkennzeichen is, according to him, possibly bogus.
Aircraft No.4 at Cheb/Eger = so far unidentified.
Eger was taken by elements of the 79th US Infantry Division. I've been trying for a long time to track down veterans who may have secured the airfield, which also became a holding area for German POWs for a while.
