on September 11th 1944 the 94th BG lost two B-17 caused by a mid-air collision at 1220 hrs in the area of Pegau immediately after bombs away.
42-97153 “Daring Doris“ 2nd Lt Charles V. Duda crew. The aircraft was hit by a/c 42-31653 in the middle of the ship and broke in two near the ball turret. Loss location 3 km east of Schnaudertrebnitz-Audigast, 5 km east of Pegau, German casualty no. KU 2947, 9 KIA (MACR 8841).
42-31653 “Erie Ferry“ 2nd Lt Merle Dean Green crew. The aircraft continued to fly back and crash landed at 1345 hrs in Lieblos near Gelnhausen, German casualty no. KU 2868, 2 KIA, 7 POW (MACR 8840).
