From the last link in the previous post in this thread,there is a photo of a Mitsubishi Ki-46

Can someone please assist in supplying the unit of the machine shown. If anything the marking style is more like that of JNAF machines, or perhaps it has been applied post capture? In any event, I've searched and come up empty handed.

Clint. The Navy did have some Dinahs, not sure if the 201st. Air Group had any but tail code was 01 or 201; some were collected at Yokota (Fussa) with other types for examination and a few were sent to the US on CVEs including "BARNES". The 8th CC Sqn. was stationed at Yokota in Sept. as part of the 2nd. CCG but some of their photos were apparently taken at Clark Field and Peleliu too so maybe incorrect.

Thanks for the reply. I believe that if we were looking at a 201 Ku machine,the 201 would be before rather than after the hyphen on the tail marking. I'm definitely not saying that that is automatically the case here,because if I was that certain I would not have asked the question. However,the marking does not match any JNAF Dinah operators that I've previously seen. Do you read the numeral/charecter preceding the hyphen as a 3? The reason I ask is that some 203 Ku machines dropped the 0 before the 3 late in the war. Again, I'm not aware of any known use of the Dinah by 203 Ku,but its a possibility.

Hi Clint. I don't think the 203rd had any Dinahs; "j.aircraft" have these NAVY units with some: 151 / 171 / 202Ku. The link is Rene Francillon's list for ARMY Dinahs, I can't see any links to 3-201 though. The 3rd. Okazaki AG used "3" plus number but were a Special Attack unit.

There are 2 photos of Dinahs marked "4-007" and "4-008" earlier in 1945 with 4th FCS (I think an Independent Chutai) presumably Mk. IV serials 5007 and 8, if so they would be 2 of the 4 shipped to the US from Yokota. I think Yokota is a reasonable location for 3-201 as the 8th. CCs was there from Sept. to 1946.

I've been browsing myself for additional JNAF Ki-46 and Have this photo of the tail of a 141 Ku machine as well as a colour profile from the Aviation of Japan site at respectively

Additional to these the Japanese version of Wiki also has 153 and 302 Kus as operators in addtion to the users mentioned by yourself. As for whether 203 Ku used the machine,too early at this point to say I think. However, Joe Picarella author of the two magnificent volumes on the Mitsubishi Babs mentioned that he started work on the Babs as an introduction to a series on the Dinah,so here's hoping that we see something more comprehensive on JNAF Dinah's in the not too distant future.

Clint. Thought you might like this map of the Clark Field complex with Bamban (where 141-103 was found with 4 other Dinahs) at the top; one had "105" on the nose but not on the tail, probably 141-105. "ATIU Summary 281", July 1945 has a record of the 50 or so planes abandoned at Bamban.

Also Jim Long's useful list of Dinah Manufacturer's Numbers which may come in handy sometime though you may be familiar with it.

The Oscar in the first photo looks very like a 77th. Sentai one found in N. Guinea in 1944 (also in background of the other photo), there's part of a coloured diagonal stripe on the tail which could be their last marking, a horizontal "7". The 35FG was there until July and the 77th. was disbanded in N. Guinea ( I think in July). Col. Neel Kearby was shot down by the 77th.
