Re: Photo Nieuport
Clint
Seems to me somebody reversed the digits 23 into 32 Happens all the time, even on TOCH now and then.... Nick It was quite common for Nieuport to list the SFA number on the rear fuselage. In this case it is a five digit number, ie in the 10000 range, unfortunately unreadable! However it means it is a French built aircraft imported into Japan. Pattern or used by a military advisor? No idea.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo Nieuport
Stig,
Any examples of Nieuport 81 specifically with SFA numbers on the rear fuselage of which you are aware? If Nick is seeing the numerals correctly, and I must admit it looks like 5 numbers to myself, but I don't trust my eyes,, a SFA number 1573* appears quite a bit higher than anything I've seen. Re: Photo Nieuport
Indeed it can't be a SFA number in any 15000 range
When Nieuport started their Type 29 production they did so in the 12000 range. I have not.as far as I can remember, seen any Nieuport aircraft in the 11000 range, so it seems SFA skipped that for some reason. I can agree that the second digit looks like a 5 but a Ni 81 in a 1500 range is impossible unless it was a rebuilt airframe. Since Nieuport WW 1 aircraft and their SFA numbers are a complete mess, the data I have in the 1500 range are only Ni 12, 21, 17 and 12bis (some reworked as Ni 13 for the Yanks. I have slowly begun a SFA list, but so far it only confirms what a mess this is. With regard to photos, there are some published in Avion for example. Cheers Stig |
