Ju 87 A Geschwader identification help

Hi folks!

I’m not an expert for early Luftwaffe planes and their markings.

Could somebody tell me the Geschwader/Gruppe/Staffel for this Ju 87 A planes.

35+D11 (all black)
52+C24 (all black)
52+B11 (B is white)

Cheers, Simon

Re: Ju 87 A Geschwader identification help

According to "Luftwaffe Camouflage and Markings" Vol 2 (pages 232 & 233) it should be:

35+D11 = 1./StG 163
52+C24 = 4./StG 165
52+B11 = 1./StG 165

Re: Ju 87 A Geschwader identification help

Hi, Simon...

In additional to Christian's information, it might be of interest to you to know that the first two characters in the pre-war codes indicated the Luftkreis (air dristrict) and numerical position of the unit within that Luftkreis. '35' therefore, would indicate Luftkreis 3 (Headquarters at Dresden), and St.G.163 being the fifth Geschwader within that area. '52' indicated Luftkreis 5 with its Headquarters at Munich, and St.G.165 being the second Geschwader of that area.

Regards...

Re: Ju 87 A Geschwader identification help

Thank you for the help!

So the '35' and '52' are the Geschwader identification. Letters D, C, B are the aircraft identification letter, last number is the Staffel! Is the number between the letter and last number the Gruppe?

Cheers, Simon
