Re: Bf109 Finland

Hello
you can find one in at least a couple books, Keskinen, Stenman, Niska Suomen Ilmavoimien Historia 6 Messerschmitt Bf 109G had an advance to a non-Finn in that it had an English summary and captions also in English but the newest editions was divided into 2, 6A for G-2s and 6B for G-6s and -8s

Re: Bf109 Finland

I found this,

Bf-109G's aquired, MT 201-248 (48 x Bf 109G-2 1943), MT 401-514. 162 total. Finland purchased 112 Bf 109G-6 fighters and two G-8 recon fighters in 1944.

Lots of data here, "Details and peculiarities of FAF Messeschmitt Bf 109G-6" & "FAF Aircraft in Color" Bf 109.

Mike

A little correction - there were 3 Bf 109 G-8 bought, but MT-474 (W.Nr. 200223, Stammkennzeichen PS+XT) crashed at Riga on 27.06.1944 during its ferry-flight to Finland.

Re: Bf109 Finland

As far as I remember, finnish G-8s didn't have cameras and were used as normal fighters, f.e. MT-462 (W.Nr. 200041) was flown by Nils Edward Katajainen who shot down 8 soviet planes between 28.06.1944 and 03.07.1944 - when he belly-landed after airbattle and damaged this Bf 109.

Hello Maciek. I got my own copy of "Suomen Ilmavoimien Historia No. 6" now so I can add further story:
On 28.11.44 after repair MT-462 returned to combat within HLeLv 33. On 20.02.45 stored on depod but in 1949 again enter into active service. Later burned in ground accident (4.09.50) and scrapped.

Another G-8 story to complete. MT-483 (W.Nr. 710012) delivered on 12.07.44 to 1/HLeLv 24 later moved to HLeLv 31 (04.12.44). After short service within LeTeknK (03.06.47) returned to HLeLv 31 (31 02.07.47). Damaged in crash during take off on 23.02.53 and scrapped.
