From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

it is strange, according to amazon UK, this book is now available:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

but according to its publisher's web site, this book has not been published yet:

http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/pr...6&cat=0&page=1

which one is correct ?

Re: From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

I don't have information that it has already been published. However, that doesn't mean anything, as vol. 1 was in the stores earlier than in my hands...

I will keep you posted.

P.S. Amazon.co.uk doesn't even show the proper cover.

You don't want to tell that my book will be in your hands again sooner, do you?
That's no justice at all!
I must make a trip to Vienna (about 120 km from where I live), to your famed Buchhandlung Stoehr...

Re: From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

Hello Denes!

well, I was very surprised too when I was told that Vol.2 is on its way.
Stoehr seems to be on the receiving end of a rather fast supply chain, as they had the new Osprey volumes last week already too, even BEFORE Osprey has announced them on their webpage.
they also received Vol.2 of the LW Bomber Units book last Wednesday already

So I am really looking forward to receiving Vol.2 of your work
and I will let you know as soon as I have it in my greedy hands...

Well, my vol. 2 from amazon.co.uk is also on its way (received an email about it yesterday).
I'm looking forward to it!

Best wishes/Hĺkan

Re: From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

I’ve spent the Eastern holiday by reading part 2 of “From Barbarossa to Odessa”.

The book covers the aerial operations from August to October 1941 in the Odessa area and end with the evacuation/capture of this town. Since the last three months of this operation mostly was an affaire for the Soviet and Rumanian Air Forces, the focus is one these but the book also includes much of Luftwaffe operations in the area and some Hungarian and Slovak operations. As with part 1, it is a day-by-day account and the authors has again done an excellent work! Once again I marvel about the rich variety of aircraft types used by the Rumanian Air Force. In October, they had less than 100 serviceable aircraft in the area (including non-combat types). Of these there were five different types of fighters – Bf109Es, I.A.R. 80s, PZL 11/24s and Hurricanes! And this with no immediate repair facilities! There is even one type used by both sides since the VVS operated a few ex-Yugoslavian S.79s while the Rumanian Air Force operated the J.R.S. 79B Rumanian produced variant.
My only objection to part 1 was the lack of an index but this has been corrected in part 2, which includes an index for both parts! The only minor objection I have to this volume is the lack of good maps of the whole area of operations.
Highly recommended books with a lasting value as a reference books!

Best wishes/Hĺkan

Re: From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

Hello Denes!

I have my copy in hands too
great volume-I have only just started to read it, but it is what I have expected.

just one question: do you know why Ian Allen has chosen to make yours a two volume paperback while Christer´s books have become single volume hardback books?
your two magnificent volumes would have been better also put into a single HB volume, but that is just my two cents...

anyhow, thanks for that magnificent work...

cheers
phil

Re: From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

Completely agree that a one-volume HB book would have been better! Though the font should be the same, it is very pleasant to read, at least to me.

Re: From Barbarossa to Odessa (part 2)

Ordered today. More of the same quality (e.g. 1944?) would be much appreciated
