Mosquito - Friendly Fire? 25 June 1943

Can anyone confirm/add to the details I have relating to a 488 Sqn Mosquito flown by Wg Cdr Haine when it was said to have been shot down in error by an American aircraft? Is this correct? Sources I have seen (have not looked at the ORB yet) state that the crash was on Brighton Beach, another source states The Crumbles, Eastbourne (now the site of a marina/shopping centre). Whilst I have all Police reports for East & West Sussex this does not include the Borough's of Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton and Worthing who all had their own Police forces. Therefore, I have no local reports to access.

I am confident someone will have the detail I seek!

Haine wrote a biography; what does it say in that?

Re: Mosquito - Friendly Fire? 25 June 1943

Andy,

Is date confirmed? I have W Cdr Richard Haine posted to 488 Squadron only on 2 January 1944...

But then of course he could have flown in one of 488 Squadron's Mosquitoes at an earlier date.

His book: "From Fury to Phantom". (ISBN 1844152022)

Regards,

Leendert

Hi Andy

I'm hoping to get to PRO tomorrow (dodgy back permitting) and will have a peek at 488's ORB for that date.

Cheers
Brian
