Hptm Erhard Peters Stab/NJG 3

Hello!
Could someone inform me the causes of death of this night-fighter ace? Any information about where his aircraft was shot down?
Thanks
Adriano

Re: Hptm Erhard Peters Stab/NJG 3

Adriano,

The website www.volksbund.de gives as location Brandenburg for Hptm Erhard Peters on 20.2.1944.
This may point to both the town with that name (Brandenburg-an-der-Havel) or the state (Land) that encircles Berlin.
He's buried at the Werder (Havel) Neuer Friedhof, which may indicate that Peters indeed was killed in action somewhat west of Berlin.

Regards,

Leendert

I don't want to start a word riot here, but since this forum is in English the use of the word "ace" is quite valid. With 26 victories Peters certainly qualifies for that status.

With due respect to Herr Spoden, I don't think many participants on the Allied side thought of the war as a game either. From everything I've ever read, Luftwaffe fighter pilots were probably at least, if not more, interested than most in "keeping tabs" of their scores.

Re: Hptm Erhard Peters Stab/NJG 3

Leendert, Ju55, Tom, Doug and Mr Spoden,
Thank you for your contribution and information.
Mr Spoden: being a pilot myself and having lost some of my fellow countrymen in air accidents (civilian), I must express here that I do have a profound RESPECT and do honour what the youth of your time DID. Although I do admire and do read a lot about this time, I do regret the losses of such a huge amount of youngs who had (at that time) the same love for flying, the same respect for the old eagles (you certainly did admire former WW1 aces exploits at your time) and the same admiration for airplanes and aircrafts. I used the word "ace", because with 26 air victories to his credit, Hptm Peters is on the list of night-fighter exponents. I do know you continued on the Lufthansa after the war and that a lot of members here are or were pilots ( military and civilian as well ). I met some of you, down here in Brazil, including the former III/NJG 1 Kommandeur, who tought me about simplicity and honesty. I do carry those lessons on my heart and did write the word "ace" with a HUGE respect. I never intended to express any other meaning. Sincere and friendly yours, with my great respect,
Adriano Baumgartner
PS: I contacted a former RAF night-fighter Observer who crewed up with a British "ace" who claimed a Luftwaffe aircraft that was taxying that night. I was trying to identify this claim. That was my main intention...not to dig out the sadness of war, but to find out the facts ( the Historical side of it ).
