Re: Luftgau IV Dresden

"Ritzau" = name
"unser Spieß" = our seargent. "Spieß" is a function or title within the group of "Feldwebel" in the german army.
Probabely this is the rememberance photo of a (or some) soldier(s) to his/ their seargent in/ from a Dresden car pool park (K.W. Halle = Kraftwagenhalle = car garage).

BTW, an "Oberfeldwebel" is of course not an officer, but a NCO.

Re: Luftgau IV Dresden

Hi, Christopher...

'Spieß' can translate as any of the following: spit, pike, spear. 'unser' is German for 'our'.

For some reason, the link you provide doesn't show me the photo, so can't see things in context, but perhaps this will help you.

Regards...

Paul

PS - Ah, just read previous posting from Chris Mag2... seems like it could be a 'term of endearment' for a well-liked comrade. The complexities of translation never cease to amaze... :-)
