37 Squadron Nov 1942

I hope you can help. I am seeking any information about a loss suffered by 37 Suadron on 23 November 1942. My relative, Sgt Robert Arthur Giles, was a Wireless Operator/Gunner on board a bomber which was hit by anti-aircraft fire whilst attacking the airfield of Kastelli Padiada on Crete from their base in El Daba, North Africa. I have found Kevin Mears book 'Wise Without Eyes' which lists his crewmates and gives a very brief discription of what happened. It is possible the bomber was a Wellington, P9693.

Apart from locating the ORB (I think that is what it is called, I'm new to this!) is there any other way that I can find out more about what happened and about Sgt Giles career. His service number was 1152465 (via CWGC).

Any advice very gratefully received.

Helen
