Dear gents,

is the Hptm. Heinz Trautwein formerly Gr.kdr. II./L.L.G. 1 identical with the Hptm. Trautwein in II./N.J.G. 1?

If yes, which squadron he belonged to?

This is what DeZeng and Stankey say about Heinz Trautwein:

01.04.37 Ofhr., IV./KG 152, promo to Lt.(RDA 01.04.36). 1937-38 Stabsoffz. with KG 152. 01.09.39 Lt., promo to Oblt.(Tr.O.), in KGr.z.b.V. 1. 01.10.39 promo to Oblt. 02.42 Oblt., Techn.Offz./Lufttransportführer 1. 01.04.42 promo to Hptm. 05.42 appt Staka 1./LLG 2. c.12.42 Hptm., Staka Erprobungsstaffel/XI. Fl.Korps. 15.03.43 Hptm., awarded Ehrenpokal. c. 20.03.43 Hptm., appt Kdr. II./LLG 1 (to 14.06.43). 10.43 assigned to Stab/I./Fl.Korps with Ic. 06.44 trf to Stab /Fsch.AOK with Ic. Credited with 81 missions.

Apparently, there is nothing about NJG 1...

In fact, Hptm. Trautwein was the commanding oficer of II/LLG 1 https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luftlandegeschwader_1, so the numbers of the wing and the group are the same. Maybe it's the same person, but he was never in NJG 1.

Hi Teresa,

thanks for your reply, I know the entry from DeZeng & Stankey. In fact there is a Hptm. Trautwein in II./N.J.G. 1. But obviously the persons are not identical.

Only other Trautwein are Kurt who is Stabsartz, and Max who is Oberstleutnant born 1898. What is your source for another Trautwein?

from KTB II./N.J.G. 1. I read the name as Trautwein. Perhaps a misreading of me?

You are right. Hauptmann Heinz Trautwein. promoted to Hptm. 1. april 1942. Transferred to II/NJG 1, 17. november 1944. So it is the same person. De Zeng/Stankey got his late war assignment wrong.

Hello Junker,

thank you for confirmation. The first mention of Hptm. Trautwein in the KTB is dated with 4.12.44. So it's plausible.

Date for transfer is mentioned in the officer list at the beginning of the KTB.

Correct, you are right. 17.11.44 from Schulstaffel N.J.G. 1 to II./N.J.G. 1.
