Arrow Fw 58 book - Progress report!

Focke-Wulf Fw 58 book progress.

I guess its time to post some comments about my research for the book. At first I must give my deepest thanks to people like Ruy Horta and other webmasters whose dedication has provided us with several discussion boards for free where I could learn more and more.
When I remember my first articles and reseach done only by written letters, weeks or even months to get a reply and never sure whether the envelope was delivered. Technology may be used for good or bad and in this case, with a serious approach and responsability the amount of information and help has been unbeliveable. When I started this project I never figured out how many researchers and aviation historians were collecting images, data and other material about Luftwaffe and specifically the Fw 58 Weihe. What started as simple walk-around book with some information has progressed now for a two volume (maybe 3) work with hundred of photos, mostly never published before. We still have a lot of work with translations, drawings, color profiles and even trying to obtain some key images to close a few gaps.

At first I´d like to give my deepest thanks to all people that has shared with me their photos, knowledge, hard work and research. Without their help this book would never be done. I´m listing them by alphabetical order (Brazilian way) despite the amount of material provided. Sometimes a small paragraph my correct a wrong statment or open a field for a great finding. But I must give a special thanks for two key person in this work. My long time German friend Martin Bach for his help in finding material from archives as well as old books and magazines. My gratitude also for historian Jean-Louis Roba whose help was unexpected and surprising for the amount of material and contacts.

My sincere thanks to the following people:
Andreas Brekken, Angelo Emiliani, Antônio Pereira Linhares+, Bo Widfeldt, Carl-Fredrik Geust, Carlos Eugênio Dufriche, Chris Thornburg, Csaba Becze, Dan Hagedorn, David Vincent, Dénes Bernád, Doug Dildy, Ferenc-Antal Vajda, Fabio Duarte, Fernando Estanislau, Francesco Ballista, Francisco Cândido Pereira Netto+, Frans Scheeve, Gianandrea Bussi, Giovanni Pauletti, Gottfried Holzschuh, György Punka, Haluk Savel, Hans Werner Neulen, Hermann Wagner, Horst Kube, Jacques Calcine, James Crow, Jan Bobek, Jean-Louis Roba, Jerry Scutts, Jim Long, Jim Sanders, João Eduardo Magalhães Motta+, José Herculano, Julie Frederick, Kai Mecklin, Kai Willadsen, Kari Stenman, Karl Kössler, Ken Merrick, Kjetil Aakra, Klaus J. Scheer, Lennart Andersson, LeszekWieliczko, Luis Alberto Herrera, M. Cemanova, Manfred Franzke, Marc Benoit, Marek Sedliak, Mario Raguz, Mark Clayton, Mark Sheppard, Maros Szabo, Martin Bach, Martin Drewes, Matthias Muth, Matti Salonen, Mauro Lins de Barros, Michal Plavec, Mikael Olrog, Mirek Wawrzynski, Nick Beale, Olaf Bichel, Oliver Meise, Olve Dybvig, Pawel Zabza, Peter Spoden, Phil Butler, Pierre Watteeuw, Piotr Mikolajski, Reinhard Puchstein, Robert Schulte, Roger Wallsgrove, Romulo Peixoto Figueiredo, Rudolf Höfling, Sandro Dinarte, Santiago Castiella, Simon Schatz, Stephen Polyak, Stephen Sender, Sven Carlsen, Theo Boiten, Thijs Postma, Thomas Genth, Thomas Hitchcock, Toivo Kitvel, Tom Weihe, Torsten Lindberg, Ulrich Kenter, Ventislav Gigov and Vesko Stoyanov.

TOCH merbers JoMe and Seaplanes: I need your names but got no reply from you when contacted via private message.
I´m not enclosing now the listing of museums and archives.

Now for the material I´m still trying to get (see attached images):
1 – Image one comes from a book and shows various Weihes with this same streamlined nose. I´d like to get at last one photo to use.
2 – Some Weihes had a clear cupola covering the B-Stand in Norway. Did someone can provide me a photo?
3 – This comes from a German magazine, I guess Jet & Prop and shows Weihe white 5 from Bulgaria in the “pró-Allied” markings. Still could not find a source to obtain this image.

I´m still looking for photos to fill some gaps. From Slovakia I have photos of the civilian Weihes but none in military colors. Also could not get a single photo from the sole Czec machine.

Still very wanted some photos from E models for metereological duties !!

Any TOCH member can help me with some Czech translating?
Any TOCH member has a close contact with Peter Patrick? If positive I´d like to forward a message to him since I saw some real interesting images on old German magazines.

Another hard task. I also plan to enclose some histories told by pilots that flew the Weihe. Did someone has contacts with such pilots? Very wanted missions done by NSGr pilots or rescue missions as example but any good history will find a place in the text.

Well that´s what I have for the moment. I will keep posting updates and wants here in TOCH. Every time someone tell me the world is becoming unfriendly I just think on the above people and their help to prove that´s wrong.

Publisher will be Brazilian Adler Editora: http://www.adler-books.com.br/principal.htm with Portuguese and English text. Format and contents very close their latest title P-47 Thunderbolt no Brasil 1945-1957 that is on its second printing !!

Thanks, Obrigado,

This is a most needed book and I look forward to it with great anticipation, Sergio. I am sure there will be lots of interesting photos and information therein.

Seaplanes, I believe, is Norwegian author Bjørn Hafsten.

All the best,

Kjetil

Hi Sergio,

I wish you all the best with your Fw 58 book!

Maybe I can help you with more pics from my CD: "Die deutsche Luftwaffe", which contains more than 20 photos and blueprints from this aircraft, see only 2 of them here, only as lo res. scans. If you already ave them, throw my post in the trash.

Cheers,
Horst

Thumbs up Re: Fw 58 book - Progress report!

Thanks Peter, I´m contacting you via private email.

Hi Horst, forgot your name in my listing. In February 2005 you sent me an image from an Austrian Weihe. On that time I was not thinking in writing a book !!! I have enclosed your name.

Must check in home if I have this photo of the Bulgarian machine. I´ll contact via private mail also.

Re: Fw 58 book - Progress report!

Hi Sergio,

I don't bother for not mentioning my name. I am used to it and just want to help, if I can.

So I send here 2 more Weihe photos, which may help you for the book. Nevertheless, I have plenty more of those.

Cheers,
Horst

Have you checked if you have enough space to store another image? Maybe you must enter your profile and delete older ones.

Hi,
I presume that you noticed the aircraft factory (radio) code on the radio equipment, not quite defined enough for me to make it out though!
Regards,
David
