Fw 190 D-9 injecting power

Hello Pilot

It appears that there were two systems used on the Fw 190 D-9 that increased the normal power of the Jumo 213 A-1. The first was Ladedruckssteigerungs-Rüstsatz which began to be fitted in September 1944 and which was a Junkers modification that increased emergency power from 1,750 PS to 1,900 PS up to 5,000 meters for 10 minutes and allowed the Start- und Notliestung setting (1,750 PS) to be used for 30 minutes and the Steig- und Kampfleistung setting (1,620 PS) to be used indefinitely. The second was MW 50 that together with the Ladedruckssteigerungs-Rüstsatz increased emergency power to 2,100 PS. This could not be used for take-off but only in flight up to 5,000 meters for 10 minutes. I have read that there were two MW 50 systems used on the Fw 190 D-9, one being a low pressure system known as the Oldenburg system which began to be fitted in November 1944 and the other a high pressure system that began to be fitted in January 1945 but I have no idea if there was a difference in output nor if this changed depending if B4 or C3 fuel was used. The MW 50 settings that I have mentioned above are those given for the Oldenburg system and B4 fuel.

Horrido!

Re: Fw 190 D injecting power

This is it!!! I have info about power output but did not realize that there is two systems. Leo- this conversion mean that it is not basically delivered with system like that. Is this conversion made on demand from operational units or the same factory?

Thank you very much

Fw 190 D-9 injecting power

Hello Pilot

For what I understand during the course of operational trials it soon became apparent that low altitude performance was deficient. Therefore the Junkers Technical Field Service began modifying the aircraft with the Ladedruckssteigerungs-Rüstsatz as a stop-gap measure until Alkohol-Einspritzung (MW 50) became available. The modifications were done in the field and it was noted that the modification process was much more difficult at front-line airfields that lacked hangers. Later the aircraft were additionally fitted with Alkohol-Einspritzung (MW 50) which afforded even better performance as the figures in my previous post indicate. I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Leo
