Attac on Haugesund February 13. 1941

I'm looking for information about an allied bombing raid on Haugesund during the night of 13. to 14. February 1941. A lady that lived in Sørhauggaten, in the middle of Haugesund, was killed during this attac. Does anyone know what the target were, and maybe unit.
I know a question about this same attac has been posted here in 2005, but no good answeres came.
Anyone?
Atle

Re: Attac on Haugesund February 13. 1941

I just received an answere from the RAF museum in Hendon.
The assitant curator writes:
"Thank you for your enquiry of 12th July, according to the Air Staff Operational Summary for 15th February 1941; on the night of the 13th 14th February 1941 six Beaufort aircraft dropped sea-mines at Haugesund while two other Beauforts made a diversion over the town. The report does not say if the two diversionary aircraft dropped bombs or not."
Of couse it does not have to have been bombs. It could also have been strafing. Well, it was good to get an answere.

Re: Attac on Haugesund February 13. 1941

The curator there suggested that I should consult the Operations Record Books for the Squadrons that operated Beauforts at these dates; 217, 22, 42 and 86 Squadron. "These books are effectively unit dairies and give account of a unit's activities on a day to day basis, these books are held at the National Archives in Kew, London." This will be checked when I visit Kew in Novermber. Anyone that has used these ORB's?
Easy to navigate?
By the way, how far from Kew is The museum with the tube? It's quite a way north, I can see on Google.

These must be the files I will be checking:
217 Squadron - AIR 27/1341, but maybe first AIR 27/1345 or AIR 27/1346
22 Squadron - AIR 27/280
42 Squadron - AIR 27/439 - AIR 27/442
86 Squadron - AIR 27/708

Hello Atle
THe NA at Kew isn't so far away from the station, easy walk in fact and easy to navigate, from first corner to the left and then staight ahead, only one crossing with traffic lights to cross.
I have photos on the ORBs of Leuchars and there are much info on Beufort attacks along Norwegian coast by the sqns operating from there. I'll look what they have wrote on that night.

I formulated myself a bit bad. I've been to Kew a few times, and will do a three day stint there in November. But, i was wondering how long time it is by tube from Kew to Hendon. Super if you check what you've got!
Are the ORB's big - many pages? Planning to do some serious photographing A lot of attacs on Sola that has not been properly researched.

I should guess it will take an hour with the tube from Kew Gardens to Colindale, with a transfer at Embarkment. Possibly a little more. Add 10 minutes' walk in each end and some minutes for the transfer.

Hello Atle
really your question wasn’t badly formulated, in the morning I read only your last message and even that carelessly and
sorry, I awoke wrong hopes, I have the Leuchars ORBs only from 1 Jan 42 onwards, I’m clearly getting old and my memory seems to begin to make tricks.

Sorry
Juha

Juha - "been there, done that" No problem!
Now the question is if there's any reason for me to go to Hendon, except to enjoy the excellent museum. I'm in London just for three days and Kew has priority, then the Imperial War Museum. This is a strict document- and informationsearch trip - no sightseeing Last trip - 2 days - gave me 1800 documents and now I even have more filereferences at Kew and IWM, so it will be bussy. I guess my chiroopractor will be able to buy himself a new Jaguar after all my picturetaking
