An overall RLM 76 Bf 109 G-2 or G-4 at Luqa, Malta

Hi there Gang,

I just stumbled on this interesting set of pictures showing an overall RLM 76 (?) painted Bf 109 G-2 or G-4, which landed in 1942 at Safi airstrip, Luqa, Malta in 1942.
http://www.killifish.f9.co.uk/Malta%...chmitt_109.htm

Notice the very interesting underwing criss-cross pattern showing... An odd bird indeed. Any informations as to which unit?

Cheers
Marc

Hello Marc,

Wheel rim points to a Bf 109 G-4. Unit is AGr. 14 (emblem on cowling)

Cheers, Franck.

Magnifique, Franck!

Thanks very much! What is this unit? I never heard or read such an abbreviation...

Cheers

Reconnaissance Unit Marc.
But you're right: 2.(H)/14, better, being the only AGr. 14 staffel with Bf 109!

Hi.

But is it overall RLM 76?

I seem to see stripes and meander lines also on the fuselage, even if the scan isn't the best.

Regards,
Andreas B

(please see signature :-)))))))

Hi Andreas,

You're correct! I should have - as usual - looked better... And yes, I love your motto! Wish we would really see it;-))

Cheers

You're welcome Marc.
1942?.. End of 1942 then or Early 1943.
My comment upon wheel rim sounds good but could be a spare since the plane "force landed", though "force landed" doesn't mean belly landed too.
No trace of this plane in RAF records??? Amazing. What about the pilot too?
???

Franck.

Franck,
Yes, it's surprising this pristine machine did not go to 1426 Flight for trials... Well maybe not that surprising considering Malta's cut off position in 1942...

Thanks Mark for updating this thread.

Cheers
Marc
