C47 "TOOIE"
I'm searching for the unit, the serial number and the individual call sign for C47 nicknamed "TOOIE" as to 1944.
Thanks for your help. Phil |

Re: C47 "TOOIE"
According to the standard reference ( Jennifer Gradige, The Douglas Dc-1/DC-2/DC-3, the First Seventy Years, v. 2 2006: Tonbridge, Air Britain, pp. 608-09)
Construrction number 16468/33216 was built as 44-76884, a TC-47B-35-DK. Delivered May 1945 Becomes US Navy R4D-7, Clinton, 15 May 1945 as BuAer 99838 NANS Clinton July 1945 VRS-1 January 1946 ATU VPB-23 April 1946 Jacksonville June 1946 VMU Jacksonville January 1947 A&T Quonset Point July 1947 El Toro as R4D-6R August 1948 Anacostia 8 August 1951 NrtTrsPool Glenview 7 January 1954 NARTU Anacostia 1 September 1955 After that, withdrawn in 56, civvy street in 57, becomes N2312G in 76. As a stateside R4D, would probably have been in standard USAAF OD/dark green overspray uppers/neutral grey undersurfaces, with the BuAer number small or not there on the fin but its last 2 or 3 numbers in large white numerals as an identifier. The name and 45938 number appear from this source to date to its 93-04 incarnation outside a restaraunt.

How a plane delivered in May 1945 (15 May exactly) could be involved in D-day invasion!!
