He 111 Wk Nr 2626

Does anyone have a record of a He 111, presumably a P-2, with the Wk Nr 2626 in KG 27 in 1941?

Hi Chris - not in 1941 but in 1940:

22. Oct. 1940
9./KG 27
Goven (südl., in Teich), 10 km SW Fl.Pl. Rennes (south, in a pond)
Bei Landung in Nebel Baumberührung und Absturz in Teich, (Bf Absprung ohne Fallschirm)
- when landing in fog hit a tree and crashed in a pond , WOp bailed out without parachute .

Pilot Lt. Rudolf Jansen KIA
B, Kdr Major Manfred Freiherr von Speck-Sternburg KIA
B Lt. Max Kramwinkel KIA
Bf Uffz. Erwin-Oskar Schmidt KIA
Bm Fw. Gerhard Hobbie badly WIA

It was reported as a He 111 P-2
take off was Rennes

Many thanks. The photo I have shows the tail showing the 2626 and the markings are heavily toned down (but not the tail). No date on the photo but it does say Rennes. There are leaves on the trees so this should mean Summer 1940
