BF 110 Wreck on airfied to be identyfied
A new miracle to be solved:
I own a handful of photos showing the wreck of an Bf 110 together with a damaged barack on an airfield (probably the Peiler barack or part of the Luftnachrichtenstelle). Unfortunatly there are no further information written on the photos, but I have some information from Wehrpass + Soldbuch, so I know, where the former owner of the photos served: He spent a lot of time in signal schols and different lazaretts, but he also can be found on several airfields: 2/40 -11/40 Greifswald 6/41 - 6/44 Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 13/XI (Athies sur Laon / France) 6/44 Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E (v) 228/XI (Athies sur Laon / France) spring 1944 also fieldpost Nr L31809A LgPaBrüssel mentioned = Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 208/XI (Venlo/Holland?) 7/44 - 1/45 Lazarett 1/45 – End Fliegerhorstkommandantur A (o) 6/XI (Uetersen near Hamburg) Any ideas for this accident (probably a 100% damage) welcome. To start with, thats a Dornier 217 tail assembly.

Re: BF 110 Wreck on airfied to be identyfied
Hallo Feldpost,
This is by all means a Do 217 night fighter tail assembly. If you have other pics showing the fuselage and its code, this would be paramount for identifying the unit, and thus, maybe, the crash. Cheers Marc |

Do217 Wreck (!) - further details
Hi Marc, Revi16 and all the other,
No numbers or other markings can be found in the photos: There are 5 photos in this series, but only one shows the wreck, 4 shows the destroyed (? Peiler-) barrack. It seems the Do217 crashed into the barrack, broke into pieces and the fuselage and other smaller parts flew about 50m behind the barrack. Maybe it was an accident when landing in the darkness then? The Do 217 is quite more rare than the Bf110, with the further details about the crash circumstances there is maybe a real chance to find out place / date...?! FELDPOST |

Re: BF 110 Wreck on airfied to be identyfied
Hello Feldpost,
Do217 and Laon-Athies points to NJG 4, I will check my Do217 file and let you know. Is it possible to get a simple scan of the page on which 'Venlo' (Fl.H. Kdtr. E 208/XI) is mentioned ? I am researching the history of Venlo airfield for more than 25 years and I am still curious about such little pieces of information. Many thanks in advance! All the best, Marcel [ marcelhogenhuis(at)gmail.com ]

Re: BF 110 Wreck on airfied to be identyfied
Okay,
here comes another photo of the series, just a small detail from it, but it shows for sure the fuselage lying behind the barrack. It is a view of ithe fuselage top, the camoflage can be seen, but no further numbers etc. I hope this will help Marcel I will send you some Venlo related scans and some of the "maybe Venlo" photos to hear something from you about ) by private mail. Re: BF 110 Wreck on airfied to be identyfied
Looking at your postage stamp size picture, it's hard to tell if I'm looking at a fuselage or the wall of a building?
Just an observation, Do-217's have a more rounded/triangle cross-section to the fuselage and Ju-88's have a more rectangle cross-section to the fuselage. The fuselage in your picture looks more rectangle than round. http://barradale.net/rc/images/DO217_Photo1_011.jpg http://fineartofdecalsimages.s3.amaz...ksBenghazi.jpg Last edited by Revi16; 17th January 2019 at 02:14. |

Re: BF 110 Wreck on airfied to be identyfied
Please remind:
Marc-André told me fieldpost no. L31809A LgPaBrüssel also stands for "Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E (v) 228/XI" (=Athies sur Laon / France) The digital Version of the Kannapin book about thegerman fieldpostnumbers is wrong on this number. There "E (v) 208/XI" is given, due to bad transscripton from the printed book (but it has to be really E228/XI !) After all this means: The crash is for sure not related with Venlo ! The man served from 6/41 until 7/44 in Athies sur Laon / France. FELDPOST |
